Lector: Eternal God, we pray for your church in all its forms and for all ministers especially Michael, our presiding bishop, Greg, our bishop, Berto and Hugh, our priests; may they be prophets that we heed.

Eternal God, we pray for these United States, may we be United rather than fractured and shutdown.

Eternal God, your righteousness endures forever, may peace come to all nations on the earth.

Eternal God, your marvelous works are to be remembered, may we be good stewards of your work, our island home.

Eternal God, we give thanks to you with our whole heart, may we show our gratitude by being your servants in this temporal world.

Eternal God, we pray for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit, from addiction, unemployment or homelessness, particularly those we now name either silently or aloud, (pause) and especially for those on our parish prayer list…; may they be comforted by your Holy Spirit.

Eternal God, we pray for all the departed and those that mourn. May the memory of Mohandas Gandhi who was killed 70 years ago this coming Tuesday who was inspired by the law of love in the Sermon on the Mount inspire us to embrace the ethical claims of Christ.
