Nearly 15 years ago parishioner Tom Murdock and his wife Leslie began a food ministry.  They were inspired to offer a meal to members of the Orcas community who had a need.  It might be a hot meal or a warm space to eat it in or just the pleasure of company.  Thus Dinner Kitchen was born.  Tom and Leslie prepared the main course and we parishioners and others from the community prepared side dishes to be served on the 4th Thursday of each month.

When Tom and Leslie were unable to continue in this service, Dennis Baker, chef extraordinaire, took up the mantle.  It was a joyous experience for all of us.

Then came Covid-19 and our doors were shuttered.  Since we are hopefully past the worst of that experience and because our fabulous Parish Hall kitchen is complete and ready to roll, so are we!

There will be a reorganization meeting in the form of a potluck dinner for all those interested in helping in this ministry on Tuesday, May 9th from 5-7 PM in the Parish shall.  We will learn how to use the new appliances, eat together, discuss our plans going forward and set a date for the next Dinner Kitchen!

Whether you have staffed DK before or are interested in joining this service to our community, please join us for this meeting.  It will be an authentic potluck.  No assigned dishes, just bring something to share.  A sign up sheet will be on the front desk in the office on which to indicate your interest, or, just come to see what it’s all about. if you have questions, please call me at 360-298-4340.
