Lector: Father/Mother Lord, You could not be more clear about who you are than in your epistle from John: “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.” If we are to find healing on earth, we must love.
Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Father/Mother Lord, John does not mince words: “Whoever does not love does not know God.” Our mission as a church is simple: “we love because he first loved us.”
Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Father/Mother Lord, John reminds us, “Those who say, ‘I love God’ and hate their brothers or sisters are liars.” We do not want to be liars. Knit us together in love.
Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Father/Mother Lord, John demands that “those who love God must love their brothers and sisters.” Help us reach out to each other in love, especially to those in need of shelter, food, healing, and justice.
Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Father/Mother Lord, We see you everywhere around us, in your magnificent creation. Let our love extend to the skies above us, the sea around us, the earth we stand on, and life abounding. We cannot love you if we do not love what you have made.
Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Father, Mother Lord, There is no fear in love; perfect love casts out fear. Help us to perfectly love those who suffer in body, mind and spirit, including all those we now name, silently and aloud (…significant pause…), including those on our parish prayer list:
Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Presider: God is Love. If we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. Amen.
