Eternal God, we give thanks for your church and all bishops, priests and deacons. We ask that they inspire us to who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act-they will be blessed in their doing.

Eternal God, we give thanks for this nation, our state, our county and Orcas Island. We ask that those in authority be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; for your anger does not produce God’s righteousness.

Eternal God, we give thanks for this precious earth, our island home. We ask that world leaders also be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger so that peace may come to war torn regions.

Eternal God, we give thanks for our beloved community of Orcas Island. As we welcome visitors on the last summer holiday weekend, we ask for patience for islanders to welcome our guests and patience for visitors as they sail the Salish Sea.

Eternal God, we pray for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit, from addiction, unemployment, mental illness or homelessness and for prisoners and captives, particularly those we now name either silently or aloud, (pause) and especially for those on our parish prayer list… and those for whom no one prays; may they, and those that remember and care for them be comforted by your Holy Spirit.
