Holy Spirit of Wisdom, we thank you for all beings who follow your teaching and guidance, nurturing humanity and all of creation. We thank you for the grace flowing from spiritual leaders, who, like our parish priests, Berto and Hugh, reach into the darkest corners of our troubled world. And we pray for clergy who stumble and are troubled, and those who have done their best and are faced with disappointing results. May we all grow in strength and understanding through times of change.
As Christ so loved us, let us walk together in love.
Holy Spirit, help those in power to facilitate a just peace in Ukraine, Gaza, and other troubled areas. Especially bring comfort to the innocent souls who suffer the most in such times. We turn to the inspiration and prayers of the Carthusian monk, St. Hugh, who reluctantly became Bishop of Lincoln but was loved by the people for his unrelenting care of the poor and oppressed, strove to protect the Jews of his diocese from persecution, was never afraid to reprove his king for unjust treatment of the people, and refused to raise money for King Richard’s wars.
As Christ so loved us, let us walk together in love.
Holy Spirit, in this month honoring the Indigenous peoples we pray that we may come together in harmony, recognizing our kinship in Creation. Help us to move forward on the good road together, as we attempt to redress ancient wrongs done to so many of your children and to the earth itself.
As Christ so loved us, let us walk together in love.
We thank you for the kindness that shapes our church and our larger island community. Help us to be generous with our time, our talents, and other resources as we reach out to those in need. We pray for the success of the Ekids project. Let us remember to include all your children in our compass of concern and care.
As Christ so loved us, let us walk together in love.
Holy Spirit, some of our nearest and dearest need special prayers. We ask now for blessings on those concerns and individuals known privately to us. (Long pause; say names silently or aloud) . Together we pray most earnestly for those on our Parish prayer list (say names together slowly):… and those for whom no one prays.
As Christ so loved us, let us walk together in love.
And we bow our heads in prayer at the passing of our beloved parishioner, Judy Turksel, who died last Monday. We ask special blessings on her family and all who loved and will miss her. And we extend this heartfelt prayer to all whose grief remains fresh despite the passing of time. May all be blessed with the knowledge of eternal light and undying wisdom.
As Christ so loved us, let us walk together in love. Amen.
