Prayers of the People

Eternal God, we give thanks for your church throughout the world and for our leaders and ministers especially Sean, Philip, Berto, Hugh and Melissa who is with us today. We ask that they inspire us to use our variety of gifts in concert to carry out your mission in this temporal world.
Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Eternal God, we give thanks for these United States as tomorrow we hold the sixtieth presidential inauguration and commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We ask that President Trump govern wisely during this tumultuous time. We pray that we may follow the example of your prophet Martin Luther King and resist oppression in the name of your love and may secure for all your children the blessed liberty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Eternal God, we give thanks for every tribe, language, people and nation on this fragile earth. We ask that world leaders find the path to peace rather than war and spend money wisely to rebuild sustainably rather than destroy homes.
Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Eternal God, we give thanks for first responders who protect and help us in times of need. We pray especially for those who have lost loved ones, homes or houses of worship in the Los Angeles fires.
Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Eternal God, we give thanks for Orcas Island and the surrounding waters. As we enjoy the quiet dark winter days, we ask that we take the time to prepare to savor the coming seasons.
Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Eternal God, we give thanks for everyone who shares this world with us. We pray for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit, from addiction, unemployment, mental illness or homelessness, particularly those we now name either silently or aloud, (take a few moments to name these, silently or aloud) and especially for those on our parish prayer list and those for whom no one prays; may they be comforted by your Holy Spirit.
Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Eternal God, we give thanks for the lives of those who have died, as we hold them in our hearts with love before You. We ask that the Holy Spirit comfort those near death, their caregivers, and their loved ones that stand watch by their side.
Continue your loving-kindness to those who know you, and your favor to those who are true of heart.

Let us pray for those celebrating Birthdays this week.
O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on your servants as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray for those celebrating anniversaries this week.
Grant, O God, in your compassion, that [insert names here…] who have taken each other in marriage, may grow in forgiveness, loyalty, and love; and come at last to the eternal joys which you have promised through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
