September 24 (Anglican Alliance): Anglicans are supporting the Syrian refugees – how you can respond. Most of the Anglican agencies are working with ACT Alliance or other partners, either global or local. Here’s what they are doing
- Anglican Board of Mission is raising funds to provide emergency relief through ACT Alliance. The agency has already made a donation from its Rapid Response Fund to help in the crisis.
- Anglican Overseas Aid is responding through ACT Alliance.
- Episcopal Relief & Development is responding through two local partners, the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in Jordan and the Lebanon-based Fellowship of Middle East Evanglical Churches in Syria, which aims to help at least 50 families in the hard-hit city of Homs with building materials and food rations. The Holy Land Institute for the Deaf is providing services and equipment for people with disabilities in the Zaatari refugee camp near Al Mafraq, just south of the Syrian border.
- PWRDF is responding through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and ACT Alliance.
- Us (United Society) has a Rapid Response Fund which will support an ecumenical network of churches to reach out to some of the 2 million Syrian refugees living hand-to-mouth in Lebanon and other countries in the Middle East.
According to the latest report of the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, there are 6,800,000 people in need, 4,250,000 internally displaced poeple and 2,000,000 refugees in neighbouring countries and North Africa. Anglicans who want to provide their support through the church, can give through the above appeals.
